Project Gutenberg

This is really cool. Named after the inventor of the printing press…

Project Gutenberg is the Internet’s oldest producer of free electronic books (eBooks or etexts). Our present collection of more than 10.000 eBooks was produced by hundreds of volunteers. Most of the Project Gutenberg eBooks are older literary works that are in the public domain in the United States. All may be freely downloaded and read, and redistributed for non-commercial use.

Basically, lots and lots of books published pre-1923, from authors like Shakespeare, Poe, Dante, as well as the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the Tarzan and Mars books of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as told by Lewis Carroll, and thousands of others.

Go forth, download, and distribute!
