Misha Demonstrates Proper Squatting Posture

I’ve been saving this one for a rainy day.

When I first caught my cat in the act of sink-urination I was horrified. But upon further contemplation, I realized that this phenomenon might potentially work to my advantage. I mean, she always aims directly for the drain and there’s often no evidence of the transgression at all, and there’s no clean-up involved! No scooping, no gagging, no lingering stench.

So how far removed is toilet training, really? Is it a bigger inconvenience for the cat or the owner? The training itself seems more involved than I’d generally like, but the pay-off is… well, who can put a price on Misha’s accomplishment?
And if you have multiple cats?
Well, don’t overlook the FAQ.

L.A. Waxing

icebat.jpg

This is the only photo I took at WizardWorld LA and it was taken as the show was closing on Sunday evening and exhibitors were packing up to go home. But I couldn’t resist a photo op with IceBat - who knows what kinds of doors this will open for me, career-wise? You can see what he’s all about over at UglyDolls.com. I first noticed these charming little fellows when Matt and I visited a toy store in Soho a few months ago. The designs are, coincidentally, similar to this sketch I did last year.

So… the Con was really good. I was able to get together with Eddie Berganza, Greg Rucka, and Tanya & Richard Horie (basically, the entire creative team of Adventures of Superman) to discuss specifics of the book such as tone, page design and colour palettes. As I’ve stated many times since, I wish I could work like that all of the time. It’s truly collaborative and passionate and there’s a palpable energy bouncing back and forth that’s just not present when I’m slaving away by myself at home. But that’s the nature of freelance work, I guess, so I’ll take those moments when I can get them.
I was also inspired by time spent with AlŽ Garza, Mark Brooks, Dave McCaig, Skottie Young and Josh Middleton, a handful of the most talented artists in the biz who make me feel unworthy when I look at their work.
And finally, a big thanks to everyone who came by the DC Booth to see me (or to see Greg and bumped into me by accident). It was great chatting with everyone and doing sketches. Unfortunately, it didn’t occur to me to photograph any of the better drawings I did, so if any of the recipients are reading this and want to scan their sketches, e-mail them to me and I’ll post them on the site in all their hurried glory!
Back to work now…

Living in the Past

I came home exhausted from my drumming class, and since I’d barely gotten 3 hours sleep Monday night (for work, not love alas) I figured I’d hit the sack early. This was not to be, as I found myself lying awake: mentally composing emails, beating myself up for not fully hard pencilling the piece I’d planned to finish today, and humming M83.

Since D20 Past is out this month, I figured I’d do something useful and update my gallery. I’ve also added the lineart to the alternate cover I drew for GI Joe: Master & Apprentice 2 #4 to the Covers section.

Goodnight Bunnies.

Going Back To Cali

It’s been pretty sleepy around the horhaus as of late. For my part, it’s been due entirely to my hectic Superman schedule. I’ve finished my first issue and I’m a couple of pages into the second one, so things are rolling along, but updating the site hasn’t been much of a priority in the grand scheme of things. I’m still trying to figure out how to have a life outside of work.
Speaking of which… I’ll be getting away for a few days as I attend WizardWorld Los Angeles from March 18-20. Not exactly a reprieve from the world of comics, but at least I’ll have some different walls to look at and it won’t be -13 degrees. AND, of course, I’ll have the opportunity to talk to real, live people - so if you’re in the neighbourhood and you think I might be lonely, come by and say hello. I don’t have a table in Artist’s Alley this time around, but I will be at the DC Booth for a couple of hours every day.
See you there!

You Knew The Pod Was Dangerous When You Took It

Well, don’t say you weren’t warned.

Reported from Apple Insider:

NYU warns students against wearing iPod Earbuds
Mar 03 - 4:00 pm EST New York University has begun a campaign to warn its students against sporting iPod earbud headphones while venturing on and off campus, according to tipsters. The tiny, white earbud headphones, which ship with Apple’s iPod digital music players, have become a telltale sign for thieves looking to hijack iPods in the fast-paced streets of Manhattan. This week members of the campus community began plastering NYU dorms with posters warning students not to wear the standard iPod headphones. According tipsters enrolled in the college, there have been an increasing number reports from students who’ve been held up by city crooks demanding that they hand over their iPod. They suggest it’s time Apple begins offering a less recognizable alternative.

A less recognizable alternative? Isn’t that kind of like suggesting that BMW offer a less attractive stereo system in their cars? You knew what you were getting into when you bought that iPod; if you’re concerned about theft then invest in an alternate set of headphones.
Just wait until all the iPod Shuffle users start wandering around NYC with the units hanging around their necks. They’re attached to the lanyard by an easily-removable USB cap.
Sigh…
