Book Sketches

sketch_porcorosso.jpg

I’ve added a new section to my portfolio for book sketches. A sampling of what people get when they order a book.

By the way, another batch of Ojingogo comics have gone out for those who’ve ordered in the last week or so. Apologies for the delay, I’m still settling in my new place and everything is chaotic.

HorCast In iTunes Music Store!

It was only a matter of time before Steve Jobs came a-callin’, what with all the love the ‘haus gives his tech on a daily basis. iTunes has been updated today, providing built in support for PODCASTS! It’s now the easiest way to subscribe and manage your favorite shows. And, of course, it’s all free! I wasn’t expecting, however was delighted to discover that the HorCast was included as part of the built in library of feeds in todays release. Steve has included us! So if you aren’t using iTunes yet, this is a perfect day to begin. When you get it up and running, or if you’re already a user, head into the PODCAST section of the music store and subscribe to the HorCast. That way, every time we post, you get the love fast, quick and easy.

Here Comes A New Challenger…

Iron Chef Gelatometti

I’m taking a five minute breather from my jumping-jack training routine to let everyone know that I’ll be challenging one of the Kings of the Gelatometti Kitchen today for the coveted (if temporary) title of Iron Chef Gelatometti!

Jim Lee, AlŽ Garza, Carlos D’Anda, Richard Friend. One drawing. One hour. One man standing.

Where: The Gelatometti Blog!
When: 6:00 PM Eastern, 3:00 PM Pacific
What: YOU decide what we’re drawing! Log into the Gelatometti comments section and submit your idea!
Who: Karl vs. AlŽ Garza!!

UPDATE!: It was a tense hour of drawing, but the battle has ended. The subject, as chosen by the readers, was Maul, from the pages of Jim Lee’s WildC.A.T.s. You can check out my offering and compare it to AlŽ’s. To vote, head on over to Gelatometti and make yourself heard in the comments section.
The finished pieces go to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

I had a great time doing this and would like to thank AlŽ and the Wildstorm guys for letting me participate. TOFU!!!!

Horhaus Sketch Sessions!

Holy Heck! ANOTHER New Horhaus Feature!!??
As a Special HorCast Supplement to tide you over mid-week, we present the first of the Horhaus Sketch Sessions, complete with commentary. First up on the block, Karl draws the Lord of Apokolips for a guy who’d have preferred something else at the Montréal Comicon!

Check it out in the HorCast Repository!

Ojingogo stuff FOR SALE

shop_ojingogo.jpg

I’ve finally added a little shop for anyone who might like to order a copy of the Ojingogo comic, a poster, or a commissioned drawing.

I’ll be updating stuff all the time, so check back often.

It’s a New HORCAST!

Well, not really that new. I posted it a couple of days ago and neglected to update the main page. I’ve had my mind elsewhere, what with the Apple/Intel thing. Chip changes can really floor a guy when he’s not expecting them!

Click on over to this bad boy, our latest episode, for an earful of nonsense!

Next Monday - The world of music collides with comics!

Ecchhs 86

appleintel_1.jpgAs I’m sure EVERYONE is aware, Apple announced their plan to migrate the entire Macintosh line to Intel chips over the next two years. I’ve been scouring dozens of online threads for thoughts and opinions about the move, and as usual, John Siracusa’s article over at ars technica was thoughtful and entertaining.

Keep in mind the author’s own disclaimer while reading…

Oh, I fully realize the market realities that conspire to make all of this x86 effort worthwhile, but this is about emotion, not reason. And if I didn’t give significant weight to my feelings when it comes to my platform choice, would I really have been a Mac user for the past 21 years?

Loving the HorCast

Can’t get enough of Karl talking about Superman? Well, hop on over to the HorCast and listen ’till your hearts content! The latest update features the second part of the Adventures of Superman #640 Page by Page, where we dissect the issue under the influence!

Coming up on Monday - TCAF roundtable featuring the very first gathering of Team Horhaus!

Karl’s festival sketch

This is one of the sketches Karl whipped up on Saturday while attending TCAF. Thanks so much to Danny Truong for taking the time to scan and post this and other sketches to his site!

Because Lyon Requested It…

pentel_brush_pen.gif
The brush pen! Basically, it’s just a pen with a flexible tip (of varying size) like a brush. I bought a couple of Faber Castell brush pens to play with and really enjoyed them, but I tend to draw really quickly and abuse the tip, thus losing the fine point, so these were useless to me after only a few sketches.
This past weekend, however, I was given a hot tip about the fabled Pentel Brush Pen (see above). It’s got a more durable brush, comes in a couple of sizes, and is refillable!! I tested Forsythe’s and then ran out and bought one of my own.
Used by the likes of Craig Thompson, Cameron Stewart and Carla Speed McNeil, how can you go wrong??
