Interview on the Writing Show

One of my favorite podcasts is Paula B’s The Writing Show. Each week Paula interviews someone involved in some permutation of, well, writing. Publishers, publicists, novelists, journalists, bloggers, no one is safe. Not even me, apparently.

I’d emailed Paula a while back to get more info about a short story she’d podcasted, imagine my surprise when she asked me to be a guest. “You know I don’t write, right?” I asked. “You’re sure this won’t simply annoy your listeners?” Paula just laughed.

Of course it’s tricky discussing the intricacies of something so visual (drawing — what the interview was actually about) without concrete touchstones, but those of you who subscribe to our podcast should be used to that by now, and I think it holds up okay.

You can download the interview mp3 here or you can subscribe to The Writing Show podcast in itunes or whatever aggregator you prefer.

A Hundred Barry Allen Fans Can’t Be Wrong

Can they?

There’s a new interview up on The Pulse in which I discuss my work on Superman Returns and The Flash. I say ‘new’, but I think I actually answered the interview questions a couple of months ago, so it’s nothing new if you’ve listened to any of the recent podcasts.
The highlight, in case you don’t want to bother with reading it all, is this:

THE PULSE: What do you think of this version of the Scarlet Speedster?

KERSCHL: I was doubtful, until I was told about Barry’s return at the end of issue 6 …

I’m kidding.

I’m going to get flamed by a hundred Barry Allen fans now. Seriously, though, I think Bart has potential. He’s coming from a completely different place, he’s just aged four years, he’s alienated, awkward and scared. I think there’s a lot of good character stuff to mine there. I hope people give him a chance.

Now, I’m not going to go into the details of the humour here, but I thought it was pretty funny. And sure enough… backlash on the DC message boards!

The thread title is Karl Kerschl mocks hopeful Barry Allen fans! . It marks the first time (to my knowledge) that I’ve been flipped the virtual bird. Need I say more?

Girl On Porch

Just a quick sketch I did for my housemate. I miss my cats something awful.
