Got a stack of comps from SPIN magazine today, so I’m going to assume it’s okay to post this illustration. I was asked to illustrate a review of Florida punk icons Against Me!’s latest album New Wave. I’d never heard of them, but damn they were a lot of fun to draw.
See? I told you everything would change. Here I am late on a Friday sharing more art with you.
Just acquired a stack of awesome new music — I have to confess I’m really excited about the recent convergance of indie rock and electronic music. I guess the most visible example of this is UK media darling The Klaxons, but I’m discovering they’re just the tip of the iceberg. I lost my mind earlier this week to a Klaxons remix by Crystal Castles (who are apparently from around here in Toronto) and after some hunting discovered that the Crystal Castles have built their sound around one of my favorite things ever — 8-bit videogame music. Scoff if you want, but in a few months all the hipsters will be pretending they used to tape record their segas like I actually did. I’ve loved that sound since I was a kid, and now, finally after nearly 15 years I’ve been validated.
