NEW Abominable Charles Christopher

TACC-pointer18.jpgIt’s Wednesday again (they just keep coming) and the new strip is up! The creature to your left is a lemming. There’s no evidence to support this in the actual comic, but if anyone asks you what kind of animal Charles was dealing with on January 30th, you can tell them I said it was a lemming.

And no, he’s not going to commit suicide.

Have a read!

McCaig At Work

Holy crap.

While working today, I’ve been peripherally watching a series of DVDs hosted by Iain McCaig, who did some outstanding design work on the Star Wars prequels (basically, anything you might have liked about those movies) and they’ve been really inspirational.

It’s strictly from the perspective of storytelling, so all of the design work he walks you through (which is literally just recorded, practically unedited footage of Iain drawing or painting) is given with the objective of telling a good story and designing your characters and environments to serve that story, first and foremost.

Man, I’ve almost stopped the DVD several times to write down quotes for the blog, but I think I’m just going to absorb it all first.

Apparently having the name McCaig means you kick ass as an illustrator.

Mahalo

I feel a bit bad for Veronica Belmont. She tried to interview Stan Lee, but he’s a very practiced showman and he managed to respond to all of her questions with the usual, glib Stan-nonsense.

Oh well. At least she managed to get in a question about webcomics. Maybe she read The Abominable Charles Christopher in preparation!

Or maybe not.

Very-Very

I discovered Adriana Ferguson’s work by clicking on the link she left in the comments section of one of my earlier posts, and I was delighted with what I found.

I don’t know for sure, but it looks like she just whips through these colour sketches quickly and the result is an energetic, instinctive beauty. Go and have a look!

To Touch or Not To Touch

A trip to the Apple Store this weekend left me in a state of confusion. Here in Canada, we have yet to be graced with the presence of the iPhone, although it is regularly purchased across the border and hacked to work on Canadian cell networks. We do, however, have the iPod Touch, which I played with in the store.

Here they are together:

Attractive, non?

Anyway, playing with the Touch put me in a trance-like state of desire, and I seriously considered buying one until I remembered that I’d just be resentful of it not being a phone (even though I mostly want it for the wi-fi web experience and the maps/email)! Now, I could get one and then sell it when the iPhone comes to Canada, OR I could get an iPhone and hack it. But I’m afraid of something happening that would prevent me from un-hacking it. Or I could do neither since it’s not exactly a pressing issue. I just don’t know.

But I looked at my webcomic on the horizontal screen and it was sooo pretty…

Dino Love

Yay! I just got some love from Ryan North over at Dinosaur Comics for my Charles Christopher strip! Thanks, Ryan!

And much love back to Scott Kurtz of PvP, who was also kind enough to send some of his readers my way!

Butternut

bns-karl.jpgSeveral weeks ago (months ago, I guess), my pal Ramón Pérez asked if any of us in the studio would be interested in doing a guest strip of his webcomic Butternutsquash. Not realizing the amount of work involved, most of us jumped at the opportunity.

But seriously, I was sort of secretly planning to do some fan art for him before he even asked. The comic is awesome, Ramón is awesome, and I’m proud to be involved in any way.

My contribution is a riff on our Halloween costumes from 2007.

For more Pérez insanity, check out his new strip Kukuburi over at Transmission-X!

NEW Abominable Charles Christopher

TACC-pointer17.jpg This week’s episode of The Abominable Charles Christopher is up and ready to read! After a few weeks of random animal interludes, we find our hero scaling the same mountain, but with the help of a chatty backseat driver.

Enjoy!

A Moment Of Kook

I finally downloaded a ton of photos from my camera, and I was lucky enough to have snapped this shot of Kook at Christmas dinner. That’s not her plate, by the way…

Gnus

Just finished an interview with CTV News in Montréal in which I talk about Transmission-X and The Abominable Charles Christopher. It airs this evening as a news feature sometime between 6:00 and 7:00.

I don’t even have a television…
